Infections that are not severe may be treated in as little as 3 days, but the typical course of treatment is 5-10 days. Amoxicillin treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
